How good are rodent models of carcinogenesis in predicting
efficacy in humans?
A systematic review and meta-analysis of
colon chemoprevention in rats, mice and men
- [MenRatsMice] table shows comparison of human trials with rodents' studies:
It was built when writing the article: Corpet DE, Pierre F, 2005 cited below. It should be updated, but it will be a huge work to do it properly, this is why it's labelled "in construction"
Mean potency of agents tested in volunteers to reduce also
- tumor incidence in azoxymethane initiated rats, and
- polyp number in Min mice
- RR (relative risk) or PR (polyp ratio) of "0.50" means that the agent halved the tumor endpoint.
It reduced the polyp recurrence in the treated group to 50% of the control group value.
1.00 denotes a no effect treatment. 1.20-1.60 means a tumor enhancing effect (promotion)
